PTIPS
PUBLIC TRANSPORT INFORMATION AND PRIORITY SYSTEM - release date TBA
The Public Transport Information & Priority System (PTIPS) is designed to track buses in real time and where applicable, provide these buses with priority at SCATS traffic signals. This can improve public transport reliability and on-time performance of buses. PTIPS can provide information to passengers on board buses, at bus stops and at interchanges. PTIPS is also a useful tool for operators to manage bus services, and for transport authorities to administer operators. The current focus for PTIPS is bus transport; however it could be adapted for other public transport modes eg ferries, trams.
PTIPS installation phase in the Sydney Metropolitan region is progressing and currently there are in excess of 2,000 buses on the system with the total number being 4,000 in the coming years. For more information, see the Roads and Traffic Authority information site.
SRMS
SCATS RAMP METERING SYSTEM - release date TBA
Ramp metering systems comprise traffic signals on motorway entry ramps to control or meter the flow of traffic entering the motorway. Ramp metering is used to manage congestion on motorways when traffic demand exceeds available capacity. The SCATS Ramp Metering System (SRMS) is fully adaptive, employing similar techniques to SCATS. SRMS can be integrated with SCATS to modify traffic signal control at intersections subject to conditions sourced from SRMS. SRMS can obtain detector data from an external system such as a motorway management system, provided that a suitable interface exists. SRMS adaptively controls the metering signals on motorway entry ramps by varying the length of the red signal. With adaptive control, SRMS can implement metering in response to actual traffic demand and incidents on the motorway.
